On the other hand, we are well aware that many of our readers will have lost their mothers, and we don't want to cause them further grief by making a lot of noise about the day.
It's a tricky balance.
On the one hand I'm highlighting the day, albeit fairly quietly. On the other hand, as a marketing communications writer in my other life, I'm rather cross with the marketers who are sending out emails asking 'Would you prefer not to hear from us about Mother's Day?' What was I think a genuinely thoughtful idea a few years ago seems to have turned into yet another event on the marketing calendar on which to hang a promotional campaign.
As is so often the case, there's no right answer. We can only continue on our mission to make later lives good lives.
