đĄ The Ultimate Guide to the Bilt Credit Card: Pay Rent, Earn Points, Travel Smart
The Bilt Mastercard is unlike any other card on the market. It lets you earn points on rent with no fees, offers valuable travel transfer partners, and includes a monthly Rent Day that turbocharges rewards. Whether you rent or just want a no-fee travel card with serious value, Bilt deserves a closer look.

Letâs break down what makes it stand outâand what you should know before applying.
đž 1. Pay Rent with Bilt â And Earn Rewards
This is the core feature that sets Bilt apart. You can pay any landlord, even if they donât accept credit cards. If your landlord isnât part of the Bilt Alliance network, Bilt will mail them a check on your behalfâand you still earn rewards.
1x points on rent, up to 100,000 points per calendar year
No transaction or processing fees
Works even if your landlord only takes checks or bank transfers
â Pros:
Turns your largest monthly expense into valuable points
No feesâa rarity in rent payments with credit cards
Smooth integration with Bilt-enabled properties
â Cons:
Check payments (for non-Bilt landlords) can take a few days
1x on rent is lower than other spending categories
Still, if youâre a renter, Bilt gives you a way to earn rewards from something you already payâwithout changing how your landlord gets paid.
đïž 2. Rent Day â Maximize Your Points on the 1st
Every 1st of the month, Bilt hosts Rent Day, a promotion that unlocks double points, bonus offers, and fun challenges. Itâs an easy way to get more value from the cardâespecially if you time your spending.
Rent Day Perks:
2x points on non-rent purchases:
6x on dining (normally 3x)
4x on travel (normally 2x)
2x on other purchases (normally 1x)
Monthly challenges with the chance to win free rent
Transfer bonuses and exclusive promos
$5 Lyft credit (in select cities)
Time your shopping, dining, and bills for the 1st when possible to make the most of Rent Day's generous bonus structure.
đ 3. Bilt Status Tiers â More Points, More Perks
Bilt offers a status system based on how many points you earn per calendar yearânot how much you spend. Higher tiers unlock extra protections, benefits, and occasional exclusive offers.

đ Note: You must make at least 5 transactions per month to earn any pointsâincluding on rent.
âïž 4. Transfer Partners â Real Travel Rewards
Biltâs rewards are most valuable when transferred to one of its many 1:1 travel partners. Unlike some cash-back cards, these points can go a long way toward luxury travel.
Airline Partners:
Japan Airlines (exclusive to Bilt starting 05/2025)
Alaska Airline (I used my gold status last year, which provided 100% bonus to transfer 40k points to yield 80k points to my Alaska airline mileage account)
United MileagePlus
Air France/KLM Flying Blue
British Airways Avios
Virgin Atlantic, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Iberia, and more
Hotel Partners:
World of Hyatt
Marriott Bonvoy
IHG One Rewards
For savvy travelers, redemptions with Hyatt or American Airlines can yield 2â5x the value of cash backâespecially for business class flights or premium hotel stays.
đł 5. Other Perks & No Annual Fee
Even beyond rent and travel, the Bilt Mastercard is surprisingly competitive for a $0 annual fee card.
No foreign transaction fees
Cell phone protection (when you pay your bill with Bilt)
Trip delay/cancellation insurance
Purchase protection and extended warranties
Access to World Elite Mastercard perks (Lyft, DoorDash, Fandango offers)
All of this is managed through the sleek Bilt app, which lets you pay rent, track points, transfer rewards, and monitor your status progress.
đ« 6. Drawbacks to Consider
While Bilt offers strong value, itâs not without limitations:
Thereâs no sign-up bonus, which is uncommon for a travel card
You must make 5+ purchases per month to earn any points
Non-rent spending only earns 1â3x (except on Rent Day)
Redemptions outside of travel (like Amazon or gift cards) offer weaker value
If you donât plan to use transfer partners or optimize Rent Day, you may find more value in a straightforward cash-back card.
â Final Take & My Thoughts: Who Should Get the Bilt Mastercard?
If you pay rentâand especially if you travelâBilt is an incredible tool. It unlocks value from a monthly payment most people canât earn points on, charges no fees, and connects to some of the best 1:1 travel transfer partners in the industry.
Itâs a renterâs dream card, but even non-renters might appreciate its sleek design, solid perks, and the Rent Day bonuses, which are still genuinely fun and rewarding when timed right.
My Take:
I personally use Bilt primarily for rent, especially when Iâm not opening any new cards. Thatâs because while Bilt earns points with no fee, new card sign-up bonusesâeven with a 3% fee on rent paymentsâoften offer a much better return in total point value. So for me, Bilt is more of a fallback or âmaintenanceâ card when Iâm not chasing intro offers.
To be transparent, Biltâs overall value has declined a bit over the past year:
The Neighborhood Dining bonus used to be a major highlight. On Rent Day, it offered up to +10x bonus at select restaurants (for a total of 16x). These days, the bonus is usually just +2x, which is still nice but no longer a headline feature.
Status-based transfer bonuses have also been dialed back. I got a 100% bonus as a Gold member last yearânow itâs just 50%, which is fine, but not as exciting.
That said, Rent Day transfer bonuses are still a bright spot. Bilt has consistently offered monthly transfer bonuses to select partners (like Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic), which can be a great way to stretch your points even further.
There have also been ongoing rumors about mortgage payments being added, which would be a game-changer for homeownersâbut itâs been in the talks for nearly two years with no rollout yet.
So while Bilt used to be an exceptional card, today itâs more of a "pretty good" card with niche value. I rarely use it outside of Rent Day unless Iâm chasing a promo. That said, the Neighborhood Dining feature is still funâitâs helped me discover some local gems while earning a few extra points.
In short:
If you rent and enjoy optimizing for travel rewards, Bilt is still worth having. It wonât replace a good sign-up bonus strategy, but itâs a smart, no-fee tool that can quietly earn solid valueâespecially when used strategically on Rent Day and with transfer partners. I look forward to a possible new bonus transfer to JAL in the near future!
