This downloadable package contains the files I developed to create, organize, update, print, and maintain your own A5 six-ring reference binder.
The system was originally developed for my own reloading notes, but the underlying method can be adapted to many other uses, including workshop records, restoration notes, trapline information, crafts, maintenance records, recipes, technical references, and other collections of knowledge you want to keep organized and preserve for the future.
The goal is simple: create a reference book that is clear, expandable, easy to update, and useful not only to you, but also to whoever may eventually inherit and continue your work.
The package includes the working files needed to support the system, including Word templates, macros, utilities, and supporting instructions for creating pages, maintaining Tables of Contents, preparing graphics, producing printer-ready PDFs, and printing double-sided A5 pages on ordinary Letter-size paper for trimming and insertion into a six-ring binder.
The system is designed so that pages can be added, replaced, reorganized, and updated without rebuilding the entire book.
I think of it as a "living reference book."
The computer is how you create it.
The book is what will survive future changes in computer technology.
If you're comfortable working with Word templates, macros, and simple utility files, you can begin using the package, as is, right away.
If you'd prefer to see the entire process demonstrated step by step, watch the companion video on The Way To Native Chronicles, where I show how the templates, macros, scripts, printing process, trimming, dividers, and six-hole punching all fit together.
This package is intended as a practical document-organization and publishing system. You can customize it to suit your own subject matter, binder, section structure, and reference needs.
