🌍 A Road Trip Across Europe

🌍 A Road Trip Across Europe

Dec 17, 2025

Carlisle → Zakynthos | 3,293 km / 2,046 miles

Sometimes a moment comes when you know you need to leave.

Not to run away — but to set off.

To pack only what truly matters, start the engine, and leave behind the everyday noise of the world.

That’s exactly how our road trip begins.

Not as a holiday.

🇬🇧 Carlisle — where it all begins

Our wheels start turning in Carlisle, a town in the north of England where history blends with calm and greenery. Here we leave behind routine, obligations, and all the plans of “what should be.”

Ahead of us is not just Europe — but time.

Two weeks and a little more, with nowhere to rush.

The car becomes our home.

The road, our compass.

🚆 The Eurotunnel — under the sea into a new world

The Eurotunnel is a strange place. Just a few minutes beneath the sea — and yet the feeling of crossing between two worlds. England fades behind us, and France welcomes us with different light, a different scent in the air, a different rhythm.

This is where Europe truly begins.

🇫🇷 France — slowing down

France teaches us to slow down. Even as we simply pass through, we feel the change. Long roads, open landscapes, and suddenly there’s no need to count the kilometres anymore.

Coffee tastes different.

Stops aren’t necessary — they’re natural.

It’s not about the destination.

It’s about the space between destinations.

🇩🇪 Germany — order and flow

Germany brings a calm sense of certainty. Everything works. The roads flow, and the kilometres disappear faster than expected. It’s a country made for thinking.

Long stretches give space for thoughts, conversations, and silence.

And on a journey like this, silence is just as important as words.

🇨🇿 Prague — returning to the roots

Prague is more than a stop.

It’s a breath of home.

A city filled with memories, emotions, and stories. Charles Bridge, narrow streets, the light over the Vltava River — all of it reminds us where we came from and who we have become.

Here we realise that this journey isn’t only geographical.

It’s internal too.

🏔️ Jeseník — the quiet of the mountains

The Jeseníky Mountains arrive quietly. Forests, hills, cooler air, and the feeling that the world has suddenly become simpler. No signal. No rush. Just footsteps on pine needles and evenings that end before they truly begin.

Here, you relearn how to be present.

🇬🇷 Heading south — towards the sun

Then the roads pull us south, further and further. The Balkans, mountains, long days behind the wheel where the landscape changes faster than our thoughts. The sun grows warmer, the sea closer, and the fatigue turns sweet.

Every kilometre brings us closer to the end —

and at the same time teaches us that the end is not the most important part.

⚓ Kyllini — the gateway to the island

Kyllini is a harbour where time slows completely. Waiting for the ferry, the salty air, the sound of the sea. The car stands still. The engine is silent.

For the first time in a long while, we are going nowhere.

We simply are.

🏝️ Zakynthos — the reward

And then, Zakynthos. An island of colours, cliffs, turquoise water, and evenings that refuse to end. Here the journey reaches its peak.

Not triumphantly — but peacefully.

With the feeling that everything happened exactly as it was meant to.

✨ Why I’m sharing this journey

Because I believe the world is meant to be experienced, not just watched through a screen. Because sometimes all it takes is getting into a car and giving yourself time. And because if this story carried you somewhere else, even for a moment — then it has done what it was meant to do.

Total:

🛣️ 3,293 km / 2,046 miles

⏳ Two weeks + a little more

❤️ Countless memories

🤍 In Closing

This journey wasn’t about how many kilometres we drove.

It was about the moments of silence that felt just right.

About mornings when we didn’t know where we’d park that night.

About evenings when we were tired — but content.

It was about a freedom that doesn’t come from luxury, but from simplicity.

From a car that became a home.

From a road that taught us patience.

From allowing ourselves to slow down.

If you’ve read this far, thank you.

Maybe because you love travelling.

Maybe because you, too, sometimes dream of simply leaving.

Or maybe just because you needed a moment of rest.

If you feel like supporting this journey symbolically,

you can buy me a coffee ☕

Not as a payment — but as a quiet “I understand,”

and as support so stories like this can continue to be told.

Whatever you choose,

I hope that one day a road will be waiting for you too —

one that takes you exactly where you’re meant to go.

Thank you 🤍
