What does it mean to travel by bicycle?

Jan 28, 2026

Hi, friends and fellow adventurers!

I'm excited to have you here and to have your support as I travel the world on my little pink bicycle, Dusty Carnation.

I've been traveling on my bike for almost a year now. I cycled around the entire island of Taiwan in March of 2025, went back home to Phoenix, sold everything I owned including my house and car, left my 15-year career, and boarded a plane to Ireland with my bicycle. I have since cycled through 14 countries and I'm still on a roll!

I'm on the bicycle almost every day, and I've had the privilege of meeting many other cyclists. I sometimes forget that touring the world by bicycle is not something most people do. I have many people ogle at my bike, and at me in my tiny stature. They declare I must be strong, and remark that it is a unique way to travel.

From people who say they dream of traveling by bike someday, the most common question I get is, "What kind of bike is best for touring?"

The answer: the one you have now!

And if you don't have one, go to a secondhand shop and find one that feels comfortable for you and fits you!

That's the first step.

Cycling companies may claim to make bikes specific for touring, but the reality is that you can tour on almost anything with wheels. There are people out there touring on unicycles and folding bikes.

When it comes to comfortability, longevity, and capability; all of that is dependent on your setup, parts, and gear (as well as your training).

Since I started cycle traveling, I've tried out a lot of gear, from bicycle parts to camping gear, to clothing, to cooking equipment, and beyond. I've changed my setup a few times, have shed items/gear/equipment, and acquired new items/gear/equipment. Through my membership tiers, you can get access to more detailed overviews of proper setup, gear recommendations, and insider tips from a girl on a bike.

You'll also receive my personal story about how I found Dusty Carnation (my bicycle), and why I ultimately decided she would be the bike I travel on.

I'm looking forward to sharing a slower, more intentional way of seeing the world, and having you be a part of my adventure. Whether you’re here to quietly observe, actively engage, or build a deeper connection, your support helps me keep moving forward.

I want to leave you all with a question, and I would love to receive your answers. I will answer your questions in a later post.
