The Umbrella

Mar 31, 2025

“Follow the blue umbrella,” the note had said.
Short. Cryptic. Vaguely passive-aggressive.
Classic Writer.

So, like four overcooked breadcrumbs in a soggy trail of fate, they started searching.

The problem?
They were on a completely deserted island.
No resorts. No beach clubs. No helpful laminated signs that said “Blue Umbrellas, This Way →”.
Just sand, trees, rocks, wind, and the occasional suspicious crab giving them side-eye.

And yet… there were umbrellas.
Not many, but enough to ruin everyone’s day.

Now enthusiastically inspected every umbrella-shaped object they could find, including a large banana leaf, a seagull’s shadow, and a particularly suspiciously shaped rock.

“This one smells like adventure. Or mold. It’s a fine line!”

Then was sunburned, annoyed, and convinced this was a punishment from the Universe.

“We’re looking for a metaphor. We’re going to die in a metaphor.”

There found a stick, declared it their walking staff, and immediately became that person.

“I am the seeker. The Umbrella Whisperer. All umbrellas reveal themselves in time.”

Here took it seriously. As in, existentially seriously.
He stared at every patch of blue like it held the meaning of life.

“Wait… this ragg tied to a tree. It’s kind of blue…ish. Do you think — ?”

No,” Then said, deadpan, “it’s someone’s ex-tent.”

Hours passed. The sun got meaner. Their feet got sandier. And nothing, absolutely nothing, felt remotely like The Umbrella.

Then finally declared defeat, collapsing face-first into a shady patch beneath a crooked palm.

“This is it. I’m joining the sand now. Tell my story with drama.”

Now flopped beside them. “Can my chapter be a musical number?”

Even Here, ever-hopeful, sat down with a huff. “Maybe she meant ‘umbrella’ as a symbol.”

“Everything’s a symbol,” There muttered, chewing on a twig they’d insisted was for “focus.”

And just like that — the sky darkened.
Rain.

Because of course.

The downpour hit like a slap from nature itself.
Within seconds, they were soaked, their clothes clinging like emotional baggage.

“RUN!” shouted Now, already zigzagging toward what looked like a rickety wooden shack half-covered by jungle vines.

The others scrambled after, slipping in mud, tripping over roots, shouting very uncool things like “Ow!” and “MY CONCEPTUAL KNEE!”

Inside the shack, they huddled together like wet socks in a forgotten drawer.
It smelled like coconut husk and disappointment.

No one spoke for a moment.
Just heavy breathing, dripping clothes, and the distant threat of tropical mildew.

There opened his mouth to say something sarcastic and soul-crushing when Here suddenly froze.

“There. In the corner.”

They all turned.

Against the back wall, almost invisible in the dim light, leaned a small rain umbrella.
Not beach-style. Not decorative. Just… ordinary. Faded. Real. Blue.
Soaked at the edges like it had been waiting there just long enough.

Now: “Oh no. I think it’s about to get plot-heavy.”
Then: “Why is it giving cursed energy?”
There: “Finally. Something interesting.”

They approached it slowly, as if it might whisper back.

Here reached for it, heartbeat skipping weirdly.

The Writer had been here.
Or… something of her had.

And the umbrella wasn’t just blue.
It was familiar.
Like a memory you’d forgotten on purpose.

And whatever was beneath it — whatever it meant —
They were about to find out.

To be continued… 🌧️🌂🏝️
