La Existencia

May 07, 2025

There she was.
Sitting across the plaza. Hat, notebook, mystery. All the markings of her — the Writer.

The four froze.

Here: “It’s really her. I can feel it.”
Then: “Or it’s just a stylish stranger who likes emotional outfits.”
Now: “Only one way to find out. LET’S GO!”

And with that, they were off.
Dashing into the crowded streets of Pamplona, weaving between dancers, dodging flying fans, churro carts, and an extremely determined child chasing a balloon goat.

There: “Split up! But emotionally stay connected!”
Then: “What does that even mean?!”
Now: “I call the alley with the music and danger!”

They searched.
They shouted.
They sprinted after glimpses of sunhats that turned out to be fruit baskets or grandmothers.

And in the end… they lost her.
Like sand through their metaphysical fingers, she disappeared into the festival.

Exhausted, confused, and deeply dehydrated (both spiritually and physically), they collapsed at a little wooden table outside a café called La Existencia.

Now was the first to speak, mouth full of fried calamari.

“Okay. We didn’t catch her. But this is amazing. Have you tried these olives? They taste like redemption.”

Then: “We lost our only lead. We are spiraling. But sure. Let’s eat tapas and pretend that’s a strategy.”

Here: “She was watching us. She didn’t seem… surprised. She looked like she knew us.”

There: “Maybe she’s not running from us. Maybe she’s running with us. Just… ahead.”

They sat in silence for a moment, the clinking of glasses and the buzz of fiesta around them softening the weight in their chests.

Now: “Do you think she wants us to find her?”

Then: “I think she wants to test us. She’s hiding pieces on purpose. Leaving breadcrumbs through sangria and metaphors.”

Here: “Then we follow the trail. No rushing. No panic. Just… step by step.”

There: “Like an emotional scavenger hunt. With snacks. Honestly, I’ve had worse journeys.”

They raised their glasses, slightly mismatched and stolen from other tables.

Now: “To us. To the Writer. To wherever the story goes next.”

All: “Cheers.”

Somewhere in the distance, a guitar strummed. Someone shouted ¡Viva!
And under the fading sun, the four leaned in — closer to each other, and closer to whatever was waiting ahead.
