A lot of what I know about case management came from Michael Bazzell. His podcast and books on OSINT methodology taught me early on that the difference between useful intelligence work and a pile of browser tabs is discipline. Documented sources. Confidence ratings. Chain of custody. Evidence that can be verified and reproduced by someone who wasn't in the room. That thinking shaped how I designed Samaritan's case structure from the beginning. This was the session where I finally built it the way it was always supposed to work.
The decisions we landed on were based on one principle: forensic integrity.
Raw evidence stays raw. If the agent downloads a court document, a photo, or a video, it is preserved exactly as received in the appropriate category folder. Nothing gets converted, compressed, or embedded into a PDF. Images stay as JPGs. Videos stay as MP4s.
Documents stay as whatever they were when they were pulled. The final case report is a separate thing, a PDF generated by the agent using pandoc, that summarizes findings with confidence scores and source citations.
Supporting evidence is organized by category rather than by which agent collected it, so all address records are in one place regardless of whether WhoisAgent or SkipTrace found them.
That last piece that holds it all together is the evidence register. Every case gets one. Every item in it has a timestamp, a source URL or tool name, a collection method, a confidence rating on a five-tier scale, and a hash. If a human ever needs to reproduce the investigation or challenge a finding, the register is the paper trail. No case closes without it. This applies to every agent across the entire platform.
Getting this wired up correctly meant rewriting the WORKFLOW_AUTO.md for every agent and creating a universal EVIDENCE_PROTOCOL.md that each workspace references before doing anything else. The structure had been designed right the first time. This was the session where it finally got built.
