🐾 Dottie Update! 🐶❤️

Dottie’s first round of heartworm treatment is scheduled for next week! She’ll be at the vet that morning and come home that afternoon. I’ll share updates whenever I can.

Heartworms are deadly for dogs if left untreated. And treatment is rough for them. The dogs MUST remain in a calm state and they absolutely can NOT exert themselves during treatment: the dying heartworms can block the dogs' arteries, so laying low is the best bet.

Heartworm treatment takes about two months, and keeping her calm and activity restricted is crucial to her recovery. Since she’s such an energetic girl, this will be a challenge, no doubt. I’m prepared to stay right by her side and keep her separated from the other dogs so she can rest and heal during treatment.

Dottie is about two years old and is also being treated for intestinal parasites. Once her heartworm treatment is complete and she’s healthy enough, we’ll schedule her spay.

It breaks my heart to think about what this poor girl has been through. When she showed up, she had matted fur, ticks, an extremely tight collar, intestinal worms, and, apparently, heartworms.

And I'll be honest: sometimes I wonder why we keep ending up with animals who need so much medical care, why is our luck so bad? But then I realize it isn't that we have bad luck, they had the good luck to be taken in by people who will love them and get them the care they deserve. ❤️

Because I'm such a Lord of the Rings lover, this thought came to my mind (mock me if ya want 🤪) when I thought about how hard these next couple months is going to be for us and how I wish things were different.

"And so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Vet bills add up quickly, and Dottie has a long road to recovery. If anyone would like to help with her medical expenses, any donation, no matter how small, would be deeply appreciated. Her full treatment could cost up to $1,500.

If you cannot donate anything now, that's fine. I completely understand, we're in the same boat, ha.

But please know your love, encouragement, and good thoughts mean so much, too. ❤️🐾

Thank you.

Please spay and neuter your pets, keep their vaccinations current, and provide heartworm prevention. It can save lives!

Dottie may have had a rough start, but she’s ours now, and we’re going to give her the happy, healthy life she deserves, no matter what. ❤️🐶
