In fact, when you're dealing with unjust laws, do not obey in general. Yes, it is sometimes morally correct to break the law.
What does that mean? you may be wondering.
It means when laws are passed that say non-profits can no longer have DEI committees, you continue to have a DEI committee until they tell you -specifically- that you cannot. Then you continue to have a DEI committee, just under a different name.
It means that when laws are passed that say certain books are considered "phonographic," even though they are not porn, they're just diverse, you, as the librarian, don't move those books to the adult side of the building until they tell you specifically that you must.
It means that when they come for your Mexican neighbor, you don't fucking talk to the cops. "Sorry," you say, "haven't seen them." You waste the time of ICE and you do not ever give your community members up.
"But," you may say, "I'm scared!"
Don't be scared. This hateful, bigoted movement is primarily based on fear. If we remove that fear, we remove the power it contains. I'm not telling you to be ignorant, or do things that will get you hurt for no reason, I'm telling you to boldly be anti-fascist.
People underestimate how much people don't like busy work. Make fascists lives harder, every time. If they want to be a fucking fascist, then they don't get to do that the easy way. We make their lives harder, then we get back to making them scared to be fascists.
