VRCW-Recovery 1.2.0: Japanese and Chinese, and better recoveries

🌏 日本語・简体中文・繁體中文

The app now speaks Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

It follows your Windows language automatically. To change it, go to About → Language and restart the app.

The Guide is translated too.

Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao get Traditional Chinese. Mainland China and Singapore get Simplified.

Japanese and Chinese text each use their own Windows font, so shared characters look the way you’d expect in your language.

A few honest notes:

The translations are machine-made. Nobody on my side reads Japanese or Chinese. If something sounds wrong or awkward, please tell me and I’ll fix it.

The agreement shows the English text under the translation. The English version is the one that applies. If you already accepted it, you won’t be asked again.

The run log and reports stay in English. That’s on purpose. Logs mix in output from Unity and the other tools, which is English anyway, and an English log is much easier for me to read when you send me a bug.

🛠 Better recoveries

I recovered eleven worlds and went through what each one lost. These are the fixes:

  • Packages that need each other now get versions that fit together. Before, when a world didn’t make it clear which version of a package it used, recovery picked the newest. Sometimes that version no longer worked with the world’s other packages. In one world this broke the video player entirely. Now, when one package says which versions of another it works with, recovery picks a version in that range.

  • Two copies of the same Udon script on one object now each keep their settings. For example, two identical toggles on the same object. Recovery couldn’t tell the copies apart, so both came back as empty placeholders. That was 26 behaviours across three test worlds. Each copy is now matched to its own data.

  • More decompiled shaders now compile. When the original source of a shader can’t be found, the full edition rebuilds it from the world. A few bugs in that step made many rebuilt shaders fail and fall back to flat, generic shading. The updated shader decompiler fixes the most common causes, so more shaders look like the original and stay editable.

➜ After updating, open Setup and click Get it on USCSandbox to download the new version.

Fewer runs fail because a log file is in use. After Unity closes, a leftover helper process can keep its log file open briefly. That used to make a step fail with a confusing error. Recovery now reads the log anyway.

Still to do: baked occlusion culling still doesn’t carry over in some worlds. That’s the precomputed data that hides objects you can’t see. Those worlds look right but can run a bit slower than the original.

As always, only recover worlds you own or have permission to inspect. Thanks for using VRCW-Recovery 💙
