There’s something about coffee and the outdoors that just fits together. Maybe it’s the ritual of that first brew before sunrise, the flask shared on a windy summit, or the way a good cup of coffee somehow tastes even better after miles on the trail. Whatever it is, coffee has quietly become part of my adventures - and part of my story too.
A few years ago, my life looked very different. Like many people, my husband and I were following the usual path: working hard, saving for later, kept pushing through. Then everything changed. In 2018, I developed ME/CFS following an allergic reaction. Overnight, I went from being constantly on the go to struggling to get through a working day. It completely shifted my perspective. Suddenly, the future didn’t feel guaranteed anymore.
Recovery wasn’t quick or straightforward, but it forced us to reassess what we actually wanted from life. We realised we didn’t want to spend years waiting for the perfect time to live. We wanted more fresh air, more freedom, more experiences, and less of the endless cycle of rushing through life to eventually enjoy it later.
That mindset led us outdoors. Hiking became more than just exercise - it became healing, grounding, and a reminder to slow down. Somewhere along the way, coffee naturally became woven into those moments too. Early mornings in the mountains, brewing coffee beside a tent, warming up after long wet walks. Those small rituals became some of our favourite parts of being outside.
We’ve got some exciting adventures ahead this year, including taking on Stage 1 of the Hexatrek, and I’m looking forward to bringing you along for the journey.
