The Best Morning Routine of a Brokenhearted Girl

Mar 04, 2024

Waking up in the morning is a blessing, but for a broken heart, it might be just another reminder of a day to spend without the one you love. It’s another day of going through the minutes, dazed and teary-eyed. It is another day, another morning to cry.

But it doesn’t mean that you should cry the whole morning. You need to ‘feel’ the morning again. And how would you do that? It’s by optimizing the little things that you do to get through the morning.

Here are tips that you can do to spend the best morning, even if your heart is breaking.

1.      Spirit Seeker – Seeking wisdom upon waking up sets your decision for the day. For me, I usually read the Scripture on the “Hallow” app. If you are not Roman Catholic, what can you do to connect yourself to a higher power within yourself? Meditation, maybe? This routine shouldn’t be that long. It can take around 5 minutes.

Spiritual things you can do upon waking up…

  • Prayer

  • Meditation

  • Peaceful instrumental

  • Chanting

  • Crying (Cry until you will stop)

Outcomes: To feel more connected within yourself. This means starting the day with peace.

2.      Bed Head- You might be excused for not taking care of your bed for the last three days because of a broken heart but for the following days, you should be responsible for the mess in your bed (because you’re not lying down forever – school and work are calling you!)

  • Arranging your bed includes…

  •  Neatly folding the blanket

  • Straightening your sheets

  • Arranging your pillows accordingly

  • Coordinate the colors of your pillows and blankets with the curtains!

Outcomes: To feel more responsible. This means that you are choosing to manage yourself right from the start.

3.      Beautiful Bath – A good bath is a slow-paced one. A great bath is a time to refresh the physical, mental, and even spiritual self. Your heart might be broken but your sense of self-presentation (avoid smelling rotten!) is a form of self-respect. There isn’t any exchange for a comfortable bath time in the morning, so if you do a bath in the morning, make the best of it!

Enjoy taking your bath by…

  • Playing your favorite music playlist

  • Washing your hair with fruity shampoo

  • Getting all soaped up with bubbles (if you can!)

  • Touch floating petals on the bathtub (if you have a bathtub!)

  •  Rinsing with lukewarm water

  • Applying facial wash

Outcomes: To feel calmer and more comfortable. This creates a safe space for you.

4.      Wakie Breakie – A great breakfast can allow you to forget your broken heart because your stomach is filled – thereby distracting you with hunger instead of pain! As they say, don’t make decisions when you are sad…and for you, don’t go out of the house when you’re hungry so you will not be tempted to just eat anything out there…just because, well, you are sad.

Eat the best breakfast by…

  •  Making your favorite coffee – an iced latte can jumpstart your morning in a second!

  • Decide right now – light breakfast with bread and jam or a full-blown breakfast of eggs, rice, or hash browns

  • Eat with your best plate and utensils

  • Play instrumental music based on your mood for the morning – Parisian café, cottagecore fairy music, hotel jazz, etc.

  • Have a great dessert – whether a butterscotch bar or dark chocolate!

  • Don’t stand up just yet – rest before standing up from the dining table.

Outcomes: To feel contented and satisfied. This creates stability for you.

5.      Planner Power – You don’t really need a planner, and if you can get yourself a notepad then that would be perfect! Getting brokenhearted creates chaos in our lives, especially if we are used to the routine of calling someone first thing in the morning – losing our sense of structure is a daunting experience…this is why we take the power back and set our goals.

Power your plans with…

  • Getting yourself a customized planner is an awesome motivation to plan

  • Using a cute pen to write on paper

  • If you’re not into planners, maybe you can use scented paper or a digital calendar/notepad

  • Write three things that you would like to accomplish for the day

  • Create a Checklist for each three things

  • Create a reward system for accomplishing these three things

  • Write a reflection on accomplishing these things at the end of the day

Outcomes: To feel less anxious and more in control. This creates structure for you.
