Welcome to the Fairy Robots of Restoration Cottage, my personal journal of gardening and, dare I say, “magic” at Restoration Cottage in historic Sanford, Florida. My name is Barry Kirsch, my wife Debbie and I bought this tiny home in 2015, moved in, and started to restore it.

Built-in 1909, it is small (720sf) and became an immediate challenge because our furniture would not fit through the door. Closet space was another obstacle, there isn't any, really. As we settled in we started the restoration process and noticed ourselves being restored as we worked on the house. Hence the name, Restoration Cottage.

I have always been a gardener but just the average, plant it and hope it grows variety. After a few unfortunate gardening mishaps, I decided to become a Master Gardener and enrolled in the Master Gardener course provided by the County Extension Office. It was an intense experience, but I graduated and now help others with their gardening questions as well as my own efforts. I highly recommend the MG course to anyone looking to really increase their knowledge about gardening.

I started my career as a photojournalist at 17 while still in high school. I spent the next 45 years covering every type of story. My life was spent on the road. When time permitted, I turned to art for stress relief and to channel my creative side. Now that I have retired, I have more time for my art, the garden, and most importantly, my wife Debbie.
