I’ve been digging properly into Clash of Civilizations, and I think one of the biggest mistakes players make is treating Assault and Battlefield as though they’re basically the same event.
They’re not.
Assault is about qualifying efficiently. Battlefield is about controlling score efficiently.
For Assault, the key isn’t endlessly farming everything you see. If your goal is Battlefield, the number that really matters is 25th place. I now think about it as a Qualification Gap: how far above or below the current cutoff are you, and what is the cheapest way to close that gap?
The really important bit is Dawn buildings. Their major score comes on the finishing win, so when a Temple or other Dawn structure is down to its final required defeat, that isn’t just another attack — it’s a qualification window. Coordinated finishing rallies can be hugely valuable for helping multiple active players get into the top 25.
Then Battlefield flips the logic completely.
You’re facing seven other servers, and random PvP isn’t necessarily the best use of your time. Buildings continuously create score, provide buffs, control parts of the map, and in the case of Empire Cities can potentially create a huge settlement swing.
The simplest way I’ve found to think about it is:
Kills are a tool. Buildings are the economy.
Your strongest rally lead shouldn’t be chasing easy castles if they’re the only player capable of breaking an Empire City or heavily defended objective. Likewise, a smaller account sitting on a scoring structure, reinforcing, scouting and joining the right rallies can be far more useful than trying to fight accounts they have no chance of beating.
For smaller/F2P players, my Battlefield rule is:
OCCUPY → REINFORCE → JOIN → SCOUT → SURVIVE
And for the server as a whole:
POSITION → BUFF → CAPTURE → HOLD → DENY → ADAPT
I’ve put together a full 2026 guide covering the Assault scoring system, Shadow of Dawn, Dawn Temple finishers, occupation thresholds, Battlefield buildings, Empire City strategy, roles for all 25 qualifiers, F2P tactics, and the mistakes that cost servers points.

If you play Clash regularly, I’d also be interested in what your server struggles with most — getting the right 25 players qualified, or getting those 25 players coordinated once Battlefield starts?
