Good morning dearest readers. Today I am inspired to address a behavioral pattern prevalent in the societies of this world. Having experienced residing within more than one cultural setting, I can confidently say that this is a pattern predominant across the world.
The voice of an individual is significant. And I don't imply this statement in a sense of an abstraction. Creativity has it's origins in the deep connection an individual manages to develop with themself, in spite of being surrounded by various distractions. In a world which is accustomed to having a contemptuous view towards people prefering solitude, individualistic people are some of the strongest and profoundest people who have much to offer to the fabric of human civilization.
The collectivistic mentality has the tendency of demanding a sacrifice of personal values, desires, visions and aspirations of the individualistic people and such demands are often justified by claiming it to be for "greater good". The collectivistic societies have convinced themselves that in order for the group objective to be fulfilled it is acceptable to demand the obliteration of individual objectives. And so as to achieve this, such societies have constructed a group image which survives and thrives on behavioral tactics like virtue signaling and severe rebuke towards the individualistic people.
A truly individualistic person however, develops resilience towards such oppression of the collectivistic mentality and in order to make sense of their own journey they have delved deeper into their own personality. They understand the intricacies of their own behavioral traits and their uniqueness that sets them apart from the crowd. In this process they access their inner resources of creativity, self expression and the ability to introduce something new to the world stage. It may be Arts, Music, Poetry, inventions and innovations. It is the Arts, Music, Poetry and innovations that provide a novel view of the world to the people residing in the crowd mentality. It is the courage of the true creative artistic individual to refuse the crowd opinion and to follow their inner compass and their inner guidance system, that gives them the ability to put into perspective the monotony of the people willing to conform with the crowd opinion.
The group mind is oblivious of the psychological workings of the individual, because the individual was focusing on building themself while the group mind was focusing on and criticising the differentness of the individual. And the collectivistic mentality still resides within it's fanaticism of minimizing anything that doesn't serve its own definition of greater good. It persists in and hides behind it's mob image of commmonality. And in that process, the originality introduced by the individual is considered as nothing more than a thing of beauty for one time consumption. The originality which has the power of bringing to attention the potential risks of the thinking of the collectivists is taken for granted and treated with a sense of entitlement. The originality that actually awakens the people sleeping in their mob mentality, is acquired and adopted without rewarding the individual creative artist in a due and fair manner.
Is this thinking pattern of the collectivistic mentality towards the individualistic creative minds justified? Isn't this sense of entitlement and abuse towards individual creative artists, a form of tyranny? The societies that do not display the soulful maturity of celebrating diversity and differentness of the truly creative artistic individual who is a beacon of light in a world on which darkness is looming. Are such societies really healthy? And what are you as an intelligent, independent individualistic person going to do about it? I sincerely hope that my above article makes you ponder on these questions.
