the sun is also a star, a five suns review

Oct 15, 2023

"Stars are important," I say, laughing.

"Sure, but why not more poems about the sun? The sun is also a star, and it's our most important one. That alone should be worth a poem or two."

Where to even begin with this review? Well, let me just start by saying I am an idiot. Because I rented this book from the library years ago and only read the first few pages. I could have been enjoying and rereading this book for years now if I had just finished it then, but I didn’t. So don’t be like me. Don’t be an idiot and read this book now (if you’ve already read it, then read it again lol).

This book was SO. STANKING. CUTE. Something that I’ve discovered about myself recently is that I love insta-love (I know, super unpopular opinion!) But this book served it up in the best way. I love me some short chapters, and that made this a quick, fun read. Including POVs outside of Natasha and Daniel was one of my favorite things about this book (it lowkey gave They Both Die at The End vibes which I’m aware how absurd that comparison is).

Danial and Natasha were the perfect balance for each other! Yeah, they did have significant differences (Natasha being more analytical, while Daniel was creative), but it was really their underlying similarities that got me: both of them were dreamers. Dreaming of a better life than the ones they currently lived, and letting that twinkle of hope grow that maybe, just maybe, they can live that life with each other.

Definitely a 5 suns read (get it?? 5 suns instead of 5 stars… okay I’m leaving now).
