Self-Care: What's on Your Table?

Five Questions Worth Asking Yourself

Dear BRIDGE Ambassadors, Members and Friends,

We've gotten really good at asking questions, haven't we?

And the more we ask, the more we discover!

Sometimes one question leads to another, and before we know it, we're looking at something quite differently.

That's when things get interesting!

We have so much on our tables. Business, family, relationships, responsibilities, decisions, and all those things demanding our attention.

But where does self-care fit into all of this?

As Founders, CEOs, and business owners, we know things don't simply slow down.

We sleep. We rest. We think. We unplug.

Or do we?

Even when we're resting, how often are we still connected to everything happening around us?

And yes, I'll say it!

Are we afraid that if we're not available, everything will fall apart?

But what about YOU?

Think about the instructions we hear every time we board an airplane.

Put your own oxygen mask on first before assisting anyone else.

We understand why.

So why, in everyday life, do we sometimes put on a completely different kind of mask?

One that covers how we're really feeling.

One that hides our exhaustion, our concerns, or the things we haven't quite figured out.

And perhaps even masks the real reasons behind what makes us feel good about ourselves.

Let's Get Curious! Five Questions for You

1. What have you been putting off?

Something important to your well-being that keeps getting moved around your table?

2. What are you masking?

Are you saying "I'm fine" when there's something underneath that deserves your attention?

3. What makes YOU feel good about yourself?

Not what others expect of you. Not what you've accomplished for someone else. What genuinely makes you feel good?

4. How accountable are you to yourself?

You honour your commitments to others. Are you giving your own needs that same consideration?

5. What would happen if you put your own oxygen mask on first?

What might change in how you think, feel, make decisions, and care for the important people and things in your life?

Here's Something to Think About!

List the last three things you did just for YOU.

Not for your business. Not for your family. Not because someone needed you.

For YOU.

And beside each one, write down when you did it.

Now, take a look.

Was it yesterday? Last week? Last month?

Or are you having trouble coming up with three?

That's worth paying attention to!

We talk about accountability when it comes to our business goals, our commitments, and the results we're working toward.

But what about self-care accountability?

If you haven't made room to remove the mask that's hiding how you really feel and put on your self-care oxygen mask, you may be heading toward exhaustion and feeling depleted.

And here's the question.

How will you enjoy the results you've worked all year to achieve if you've exhausted yourself getting there?

Your plans matter. Your goals matter. Your progress matters.

And so do YOU!

So here's what I'd love you to do.

Write down those three things.

Take a good look at your answers.

Choose one action you can take TODAY that puts your self-care back on the table.

Then, when you've done it, send me a text with four simple words:

"THE MASK IS ON!"

I'll know exactly what you mean!

And perhaps that's the beginning of a different kind of accountability.

One that includes YOU.

That's the kind of thinking and conversation we explore in our Second Opinion™ Room.
