Wild Caterpillar

Jul 02, 2025

Greetings, dear pond supporters! I'm so excited to report that I spotted my first wild caterpillar of the season and it is my first ever sighting of a swallowtail caterpillar! I'm so excited that I could squeal. In fact, I did some squealing and frolicking at a safe distance from the caterpillar. image

What a splendid lunch break of working from home fun to go for a walk and see one of the invertebrates that I've most longed to cultivate.

If you look closely, you can see the caterpillar on the plant stem above the butterfly yard sign and it is adorably apropos. I only found the caterpillar when I was planting some morning glory seeds to hopefully grow over the bare trellis which is rather perfect.

Morning glory blooms always remind me of a particular friend and her mom; both of whom love gardens. My butterfly-loving bestie and my folks also got immediately texted this precious beauty so we could enthuse in tandem. It occurred to me today how much garden time connects me not only to God and the Earth but also to the people who are part of the tapestry of my heart. I'm so grateful.

The milkweed is blooming so well thst I hope to see more monarch butterflies soon. At least the yard is gloriously perfumed. What is growing in your yard this summer, dear supporters? Any caterpillar or other wild neighbors brightening your yard? Please, leave a comment or content request below and thanks for supporting my Technicolor Lily Pond!
