Coming late into the video game scene was a major surprise as Microsoft brought the original XBox to the video game console market. Surprising tons of people with the release, it caused a major stir up especially as the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast feel to their deaths.
Being released 1.5 years after its rival, PS2, the growth was very slow despite the options that the system has to offer were so much greater then the PS2. Having a Harddrive as well as in hook up for internet, the original XBox was basically a plug and play straight out of the box (excluding Xbox Live)(*24.65 million XBox sales)
When the next generation came out, things were looking promising as the 360 helped grow the fan base and was crushing the sale until the red ring of death was a factor. Many people stopped living the XBox life and immediately switched to the PS3. Asking people who switched consoles if they should of stayed with the 360, many of them said they should of stayed. As the PS4/XBox One released their newest console, many fans (who were fans of the Xbox) didn't switch back due to the amount of money that they have spent on the PS3 which I totally understand. The sales of this console fell massive and was underwhelming for sales. (*57.96 million Xbox one sales)
The PS5 and XBox Series has a very battle with this gen as The PlayStation jogged headlines across the world with the massive shortage as well as the high scalper prices yet the Xbox publicity remain silent. The interesting part of this battle is the Xbox was more powerful then the PS5 and eventually Sony knew this so they put their cash into the PS5 pro. Almost $400-$500 cheaper, the Series X still is as powerful than the PS5 Pro. True gamers will purchase this because it has the PlayStation name on it and it's bragging rights.
