Story starter: The landing craft from an orbiting spacecraft is set to land to investigate losing contact with science colonies on the exoplanet.
The nepo baby at the scanner (or whatever it was that Star Trek personnel used to determine the conditions of a planet before beaming down) is inept.
The craft descends to the point of commitment when the doofus spots what he thinks is a little lizard on an upturned canister.
There is back and forth bickering about it until the Science Officer identifies, "That's not a canister. That's our landing pad!"
