Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on something meaningful — a safe, reliable, and developer-friendly WebP image conversion plugin for WordPress.
A lot of existing WebP tools either force-convert images, break animated GIFs, delete originals permanently, or run risky bulk conversions that can time out on real-world websites. I wanted to solve that pain more thoughtfully.
So I built the Stintlief WebP Converter (STWP) with these principles in mind:
• convert images only when WebP is actually supported
• keep backups of originals so nothing is lost
• skip animated GIFs and edge-cases safely
• make conversion size-aware (don’t replace larger WebP files)
• add restore options instead of destructive actions
• run bulk conversion in small, safe background batches
It’s designed for real production environments — especially for indie makers, small businesses, and developers who care about performance without risking their media library.
Most of the work behind this project — research, testing, iterations, and refinements — is self-funded and done in my spare time. I’m building this as part of my broader mission at Stintlief Technologies to create practical, developer-focused tools.
