The Constants & Variables of Life

The Constants & Variables of Life

For students of Religion, there's such a thing as the Cosmic Duality—it is the opposing forces or balance of nature portrayed in multiple creation narratives.

In Zoroastrianism, you will find the dualism of Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu. In Chinese mythology, there's the popular Ying-yang concept—indicating the masculine and feminine energies.

Concepts such as cosmic duality and the centrality of humanity hold a center stage in almost all religious beliefs. Beyond faith, it is exemplified in nature—man and woman, light and darkness, evil and good, etc.

These ideas constitute what I describe as the constants of life—they are things you cannot alter or eliminate from the equation of life. They are fundamental aspects of life upon which all other elements are built.

For constants, you have change—the inevitability of it is constant. Seasons shift, people evolve, and circumstances transform. Change is simply a constant in life. The Laws of Nature—gravity, physics, and biological cycles operate regardless of individual beliefs or choices.

Anything else which owes its existence to the constants of life is a variable—this is where your creativity comes to play. The option for a variable in life is what allows you to build innovative solutions and manipulate the constants of life to your advantage.

Let's get practical.

Imagine there's a river flowing downhill. Gravity and the physical laws governing energy conversion are constant.

You decide to manipulate these constants into generating a hydroelectric power plant on this river—the design, energy demand, and turbine type are all variables.

When the internet became a constant, people got creative: cat videos became art, memes became culture, and your mom started sending you daily WhatsApp prayers.

For some of you, you're at crossroads—faced with one of life's constant and you're devasted already—torn between what to do and what not.

Take a deep breath.

It's like pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del for your brain—sometimes you just need a reboot.

Constants are like laptops—they always have ports where you can plug in a variable. Just dont try to force a USB into an HDMI port—it's a disaster waiting to happen.
