When God Doesn’t Make Sense (Love)

When God Doesn’t Make Sense (Love)

Apr 02, 2025

Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves a hard but important question: Have I forgotten the grace I live in every day?

It’s easy to go about our lives with a sense of fairness, a quiet belief that love should be earned, kindness should be mutual, and respect should be reciprocal. But if we truly believe in the message of the cross—then we have to admit something uncomfortable:

We didn’t deserve the love God gave us.

We didn’t earn Jesus’ sacrifice.

And we can’t ever repay what was done for us.

God loved us while we were still messy, broken, proud, selfish, and lost.

And that kind of love sets the standard—not just for how we receive love, but for how we’re called to give it.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you?” — Luke 6:32-33

This verse always gets me. It’s Jesus asking us plainly: What are you really doing if you’re only kind to the people who make it easy?

And when you think about it… He’s right.

Everyday Love That’s Hard but Holy

Let’s bring this down to real life.

• You’re in traffic. Someone cuts you off, flips you off, and speeds away. Everything in you wants to do the same back or at least mumble something unpleasant. But then you take a breath and say a silent prayer for that person instead. You let it go. That’s grace.

• Your coworker never acknowledges your help. You’ve picked up their slack more times than you can count, and yet they always act like it’s no big deal. Still, you show up again, you help again—without bitterness. That’s grace.

• A family member hurt you years ago. Maybe they’ve never apologized. Maybe they don’t even see the damage they caused. But you stop replaying the offense in your mind. You don’t let it turn your heart hard. You begin to forgive—not because they asked, but because your healing matters more. That’s grace.

• Your friend is going through a selfish phase. They only call when they need something. They don’t check in with you. And yet you answer the phone. You listen. You offer love, even when it feels one-sided. That’s grace.

You Are Blessed When You Love Like This

Here’s the secret most people don’t realize:

Loving people who don’t deserve it doesn’t make you weak. It actually makes you free.

Free from resentment.

Free from pride.

Free from needing constant validation.

Free from trying to “measure” your goodness against someone else’s behavior.

And even better—God sees it.

Every time you choose to extend the kind of love that feels uncomfortable, you’re reflecting His heart. And that kind of obedience never comes back empty.

There are blessings attached to grace-filled living. It might not always come the way you expect—but peace, favor, and spiritual strength are just a few of the gifts you start walking in when you stop keeping score and start loving like Jesus.

A Loving Reminder

So the next time you catch yourself thinking:

• “They don’t deserve my forgiveness.”

• “I’m done being nice to people who don’t treat me right.”

• “If they want my help, they better start acting better.”

Pause.

Breathe.

And remember: Neither did you. But God loved you anyway.

Let that truth change the way you love.

Thanks for being part of this little corner of the internet where we can reflect, reset, and grow closer to what really matters. If this message spoke to you, consider supporting this space or sharing it with someone who might need it.

You’re always one reminder away from walking in deeper love. Let this be yours today.
