Your Intuition Rises and Falls With the Sun

Some days your intuition is clear, and some days you can't get a read on anything at all - and you've probably blamed yourself for the days your intuition goes quiet. It may not be you.

A six-year study at one of the most serious research labs in the country found that the difference between the clear days and the quiet days tracks something you have absolutely no control over. Once you know what that something is, you can plan your biggest decisions around it.

For six years, from 1978 to 1984, a research team at SRI International in Menlo Park, California scored every remote viewing session they ran, and then they compared those scores to the weather in space - what the sun and the Earth's magnetic field were doing on the day of each session.

Remote viewing, if you haven't come across it before, is the practice of describing a place or an object you've never seen, from a distance, using nothing but intuition and psychic ability. SRI ran a remote viewing program under government contract, and the report I'm reading from was released through the CIA's reading room decades later. The team's question was a practical one. They wanted to know whether "measurement of the ambient geophysical variables could be used as an indicator of expected performance," and "if so, can optimum performance windows be identified?" In plain words, the team was asking: are there good days and bad days for intuition, and can you see them coming?

They measured extremely low frequency electromagnetic activity at two sites in California, along with solar flux, sunspot numbers, solar flares, and the geomagnetic indices - the numbers that describe how disturbed the Earth's magnetic field is on any given day. Then they ran 779 correlations between how good each session was and those measurements. By chance alone, you'd expect about 38 of them to come up significant. They found 56, which the report calls "about 50 percent over what would be expected by chance."

The researchers called that overall result modest. But the sunspot result was quite a bit stranger. The strongest correlations to sunspot number "consistently occurred two to three days after the sessions." So the remote viewing sessions were lining up with sunspot counts that hadn't even happened yet when the sessions took place. In their own words: "At first one might dismiss observation of RV performance apparently forecasting sunspot number."

But they didn't dismiss it. They offered a plain explanation, which I respect - large flares from active regions "can frequently be seen before the region rotates onto the solar disk," so something about a coming solar flare may already be reaching the Earth, and the body, before the official sunspot count catches up, though that's only a maybe. They also wrote down that between individuals there was "great variability" and "no definable pattern." A good lab writes down what didn't work, too.

What I take from the study is simpler than either of those explanations. The people who studied intuition for a living didn't treat intuition like a mood. They treated it like a signal with conditions, and then they went looking for the conditions might be. Some days are better than others for intuition. Your body knows things a few days before the sunspot count does.

So before you make a decision that depends on your read of a person or a situation, look up today's geomagnetic index. The K-index is published for free by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. If the number is quiet, your sense of things is likely working well. If the number is high, check your read twice before you act on it.

In Starfire Signals, my live intuition class, we don't wait around for a good day to come along. We make the conditions ourselves. I use Hemi-Sync audio. If you haven't heard of Hemi-Sync before, it combines an audio technique called binaural beats, in which you are played a slightly different tone in each ear and your brain reconciles these by producing a third tone which is the difference between the two, with other brainwave altering frequencies and tones layered in, to shift you into a state of synchronization between the hemispheres of your brain. This induces a calm, open, focused state from which you can access expanded awareness. Your body settles into deep rest while your mind stays awake, and then you practice hearing your own signal and writing it down before you start arguing with yourself about it. Every session, you get better at telling what your intuition sounds like on an ordinary day - which is the only kind of day most of us get.

The next class is Tuesday, November 3, 10 AM to noon Eastern, live on Zoom. A session is $22, and BMC Starfire Codes Members get their discount automatically.

When the next clear day comes isn't up to you, but whether you practice is.
