Starfire Spark starts tomorrow, Thursday, at 8:30 PM Eastern on Zoom, and I want to tell you what you what this class is all about.
It is a two-hour weekly class for people who have something they are trying to make and have stopped making it.
This is for writers with a stalled draft, musicians with a song that never gets its last verse... painters, potters, photographers, people who code, and people who would never call themselves artists but have a project on the shelf.
That block you feel when you try to start is a physical and mental state, and I use Hemi-Sync audio to gently move you out of it.
If you have not heard of Hemi-Sync before, it combines an audio technique called binaural beats, in which you are played a slightly different tone in each ear, and your brain answers by producing a third tone, with other brainwave altering frequencies and tones layered in, to shift you into a state of synchronization between the hemispheres of your brain. This induces a calm, open, focused state from which you can access expanded awareness. The technology was developed by Robert Monroe and has been studied for more than fifty years.
In the class, we check in briefly, then you listen to the audio with your headphones on, and then you work on your piece. The creative work part is a timed sprint. You set one small goal, I start a timer, and you work on that goal without stopping or deleting until the timer rings. By the end of the night, you have something you made yourself that did not exist when you logged on. Sharing what you've made is optional. Sharing about your process, what it felt like, and what you've learned is encouraged.
You just need stereo headphones, a quiet room, and whatever you make with - pens, paper, laptop, paints - have access to your supplies on hand.
