'IOC Leader Achievement Award'

Ulsan City Hall coach Tae-seok Jang (55, photo), who led the women's epee national fencing team, received the 'Leader Lifetime Achievement Award' presented by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC announced on the 23rd that it had selected Coach Jang and Argentina judo team coach Laura Martinel (60) as this year's recipients of the 'Instructor's Lifetime Achievement Award'. This award, created in 2017, selects one man and one man from current and former coaches who contributed to the achievements of athletes participating in the Olympics, and Coach Jang is the first Korean leader to receive the award.

Coach Jang coached the women's epee team from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics until this year's Hangzhou Asian Games. Korean women's epee won a silver medal in the team event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. At the 2022 World Championships and this year's Hangzhou Asian Games, he won gold medals in the individual and team events. Until this season, he has been ranked No. 1 in the world for three consecutive seasons. When announcing the winners, the IOC introduced Coach Jang as “leading the growth of Korean women’s fencing.”

Coach Jang, who stepped down from coaching the national team after the Hangzhou Asian Games, is focusing on coaching his team's Ulsan City Hall players. Coach Jang said, “I would like to say thank you to Kang Young-mi, Choi In-jeong, Song Sera, and Lee Hye-in who have been with the national team for a long time. “It was a privilege and joy to build so many memories with these players,” he said. 슬롯
