About Speed Bandits Racing Speed Ratings
Daily Speed Ratings for horse racing in the UK & Ireland
Speed figures will always be of great benefit. I would go so far as to say I'm not sure how a punter on the Flat gets by without considering them at the very least. - Tom Segal
From Accountant to Racing Data Analyst: My Journey
Based in the Midlands, I'm a qualified accountant and data analyst by profession, now enjoying a second career betting and trading Betfair horse racing markets.
The Ratings: A Solution to High Subscription Costs
I began developing my horse racing ratings after becoming frustrated with the high subscription fees of other services. What started as a personal tool for form study quickly grew, and I began sharing my ratings with friends and fellow racing enthusiasts on online forums.
Affordable & Comprehensive: My Guiding Principles
My goal has always been to provide an affordable alternative for the average punter, and I've stuck to that principle. Over the years, I've added new features for both pre-race bettors and in-running angles, and my ratings now offer more comprehensive insights than many of the premium services I initially sought to replace.
The Method Behind the Ratings
The ratings are based on my meticulously researched standard times. Unlike some other ratings, they aren't based on data from sources like the Racing Post, which I've found to contain noticeable errors. Every single horse is timed to the 100th of a second, regardless of its placing, before any further adjustments are made. I don't guess on lbs per length behind the winner or the many vagaries that other sites use.
Why My Ratings Aren't Free
Race data is expensive; the subscription fees generated by my small band of loyal followers barely cover these costs, let alone the time I invest each day, which is why I can't offer them for free as I once did.
Subscription Fees
I initially tried a voluntary donation model, but it wasn't fair. Some people overpaid, while others who used the ratings regularly donated nothing. Switching to a monthly subscription model, which offers loyalty discounts, has proven to be a much fairer way to cover my costs.
