Sunspots are areas on the sun's surface created from disturbances in the stars magnetic field. They can vary in size but it is not unusual to have sunspots are as big, or bigger than the Earth! Sunspots are often accompanied by other solar events such as solar flare or Coronal Mass Ejections.
