Un chaleureux bonjour en provenance de Strasbourg! A heartfelt hello from Strasbourg, France!
It's already (somehow) been 7 days since Sonia landed in France (only 6 for Nigel, as he arrived a day later). We've been too jet-lagged, busy and overwhelmed to stay on top of our regular updates, but the photos and videos are starting to accumulate in our machines, and we already have SO MANY STORIES & MOMENTS to share... So it's time for a catch-up and our first proper Buy Me A Coffee post of this tour đ
THE LONG (42 1/2 HOUR) JOURNEY TO PARIS / LE LONG VOYAGE A PARIS (42 heures 1/2)
The last proper travel update I had shared was posted in Singapore at the airport. From there I flew to Istanbul for what was meant to be a quick layover, but as things turned out, ended up missing my flight to Paris! Thankfully through no fault of my own. The Singapore to Istanbul flight was delayed due initially to a technical problem (the door wouldn't close... haha) and subsequently to our plane having missed its place in the take-off queue (we had to wait nearly an hour). This meant we landed in Istanbul about 15 minutes before the take off time of my next flight - eeeeek. Pretty stressful. Luckily - and somewhat amusingly - we stepped off the plane to find one man standing in front of a table that was covered in boarding passes (dozens, maybe a hundred) organized by destination and were told to find our name and just help ourselves. Quite hilarious - had never seen anything like it in my years of travel. I later wished I'd taken a photo. The later flight I was assigned gave me time to explore the airport and indulge in a bit of gift shopping for my family and our various hosts. I was struck by the beauty of the artistry - pottery, carpets, clothing, ..., and also by the exorbitant pricing of any hot drink (of which I therefore had none) 10 euros for a tea, coffee, etc. By the time I reached my Sweet Paname hotel near CDG airport, I had been traveling for approximately 42 1/2 hours. Fortunately my neighbors on flights #2 and #3 were totally lovely (didn't really chat on the 1st flight, watched movies and rested) - a fellow world traveler and lover of synchronicity life coach on #2, then a young female Turkish pilot in training on #3. Both were humbling, uplifiting and inspiring encounters I hope to stay in touch with.

ARRIVĂE Ă PARIS / ARRIVAL IN PARIS (Le Mesnil-Amelot, near CDG)
Was very reassured when Nigel's baby arrived safely in one piece at CDG airport. I had to carry his guitar on Turkish Airlines as we were told that China South Airlines do not accept to check guitars, nor can one carry on a guitar, so the only option on China South is to buy a seat for it (!)
Searching for an Uber in the cold / à la recherche d'un Uber dans le froid... Found it! / Trouvé!
I took a walk around the surprisingly floral Le Mesnil Amelot neighbourhood on arrival and enjoyed visiting my first French boulangerie of the trip...

Tacos Kebabs?
Chocolate éclair tasted like heaven.

The only dinner I had energy for that night after the eclair was a rice pudding and an apple sauce. Tried to watch a movie on the cool projector screen around 7pm but fell asleep about 3 minutes into it.
Was so very grateful for a comfy bed and a nice shower (with massage jets!). I enjoy staying at the Nomad eco-hotel near CDG - comfy, colourful, friendly and eco-friendly.
Also a fan of a good buffet breakfast! Mr. Nigel was able to join me for breakfast the next morning when he landed from China.
