Analysis Paralysis - Signafield - Opponent's First Turn Overview

Oct 07, 2026

This is a direct follow up to "Analysis Paralysis - First Turn Overview", so you should read that if you want to fully understand what is going on here ^_^.

START OF POST - Signafield - A Basic First Turn... for the Opponent!

Let's assume the opponent already has their Ship, they proceed to the Rise Step!

Rise-Step:

The opponent has to Search their Ship for 5 Cyber Signa and then Send them to our Target Area.

We see what they picked, but it doesn't matter since their entire hand will empty at Rest.

Day-Step:

Our opponent sees that we have 1 Cyber-Main in our Main Zone buffed by an Immediate, and 1 Ultimatum that we can't use until our coming turn.

The opponent decides to Send 1 Rank 3 Cyber-Main into their Main Zone, and then they buff it with an Immediate.

They now only have 3 Cyber Signa in their Target Area.

... Where is this going?

FOS-Step (Face Off Signa Step):

They enter the FOS-Step, and unlike in our case where we had to skip the FOS-Step, they DON'T. The FOS-Step is skipped during the first turn of the GAME, not on the first turn a Leader takes.

... We are in trouble ^_^;

Opponent's Options During FOS

The opponent has 2 options that apply to each individual Cyber-Main they have:

A. Their Cyber-Main can apply Frequency to one of our Cyber-Mains. How much Frequency is applied is equal to their Cyber-Main's CORE. If their Cyber-Main's CORE is higher than our Cyber-Main's CORE (since it is in Mode-1, but that is a discussion for another day), our Cyber-Main will be Sent to Standby, and we will lose Link (Life) equal to how much more CORE the opponent's Cyber-Main has.

B. Their Cyber-Main can pay NEXUS to use 1 of its Nexus Abilities, and they can keep doing this as long as they can pay for it. If their Cyber-Main's NEXUS becomes 0, their Cyber-Main is Sent to Standby after using the Ability.

Ok, so what happens? The opponent decides to use Frequency!

Our Cyber-Main has 3 CORE, and their Cyber-Main has 5 CORE... Uh oh.

Our Options During the Opponent's FOS

Ok, this could end badly. We have an Ultimatum that activates in Response to Frequency, but we can't use it until our coming turn, so that's out.

We have 3 options that apply to each individual Cyber-Main we have:

A. We can allow our Cyber-Main to block normally.

B. If the opponent's Cyber-Main has CORE equal to, or higher than, our Cyber-Main's CORE, we can use our Cyber-Main's Anti-Core (free ability), and then Send our Cyber-Main to Standby. The downside is, the opponent can then direct their Cyber-Signa's Frequency at something else.

C. If the opponent's Cyber-Main has CORE lower than our Cyber-Main's CORE, our Cyber-Main can block the Frequency AND use its Anti-Core, at the cost of going straight to Standby afterwards.

Decisions decisions...

If we block normally, we lose our Cyber-Main and 2 Link.

We can't block AND use Anti-Core, because our Cyber-Main has lower CORE.

We COULD activate our Cyber-Main's Anti-Core, but that will Send it to Standby. Why does that matter?

If we have no Cyber-Mains to block with, our opponent can have their Cyber-Main use its Frequency on us instead. In this case, that would be a 5 Link loss, which we do not want.

So we look at our Cyber-Main... It's Anti-Core says "If at least 1 Immediate was used on this Cyber Signa, you lose no Link when it's Anti-Core Sends it to Standby".

Since blocking will make us lose our Cyber-Main, AND using Anti-Core will make us lose our Cyber-Main, we have a benefit here:

Blocking will lose 2 Link.

But Anti-Core will lose 0 Link due to its protection!

So we use the Anti-Core and Send it to Standby.

The opponent can now use Frequency on us, but thanks to the protection provided by our Cyber-Main's Anti-Core, it won't work on us! So they go to their next step.

Phew! Dodged a bullet!

Night-Step:

Ultimatums

Our opponent Sends 1 Ultimatum into their Back Zone. Since they played 1 Immediate, they can only play 1 Ultimatum at max (thankfully).

In addition, because they played a Cyber-Main during their Day-Step, they cannot play any Cyber-Mains during their Night-Step (double thankfully).

The opponent proceeds to their Rest-Step

Rest-Step:

The opponent must Send all remaining Cyber Signas in their Target Area to their Standby. They must Send at least 1, otherwise, they lose the Game.

Since they only played 3 Cyber Signa, they are forced to Send not 1, but 2 Cyber Signas to Standby, a waste of a second resource, which is good for us. Our turn then starts immediately.

So we survived that turn without a scratch to our Link after all!

This was the first turn analysis for the opponent during Team Matches.
