(A heartfelt share from my book ā if this touches you, please consider supporting my work)
At first glance, fear seems simple.
A scream. A racing heartbeat. A need to run.
But as I began to sit with my own fears, I realized something deeper. Something many of us carry but rarely have the words for.
š” There are two kinds of fear ā and one of them lives in silence.
Conscious fear is loud. It shows up in a car accident. In the eyes of someone facing a phobia ā spiders, heights, storms. Itās real, itās immediate, and it demands a response.
We've all felt that pulse-quickening moment.
But what about the other kind? The one that whispers rather than shouts?
š Unconscious fear is different.
Itās the fear that lives beneath your awareness.
Born in childhood, or carved into you by trauma or rejection.
It stays quiet ā until something in your present triggers it.
Suddenly, you're not just reacting to a moment ā you're reacting to a memory you canāt fully see.
Your body tenses. Your mind races.
And you donāt understand why.
It might show up when someone raises their voice ā and your hands go cold.
Or when someone leaves you on āreadā ā and your chest tightens with invisible panic.
It makes no sense on the surface. But itās real. Very real.
š± I wrote this from a place of deep personal truth.
Iāve lived it. Iāve faced it.
And I want to help others name what theyāre feeling too.
You werenāt in danger.
No one had hurt you in that moment.
Yet⦠something in your body was screaming.
This is what happens when the body remembers what the mind forgets.
š§ You see, the brain doesnāt store trauma like normal memories.
Trauma doesnāt always appear as a clear image or story.
Instead, it gets locked into the nervous system, the muscles, the gut, and especially⦠the amygdala ā the brainās alarm system.
And so, years later, a sound⦠a smell⦠a tone of voiceā¦
Can activate a part of you that thinks the danger is still happening.
If this resonates with you ā if you've ever felt that something was wrong but didnāt know why...
Please know: You're not alone.
This is why I write.
This is why I share.

Letās talk about the fears weāve hidden.
Letās heal through understanding.
Letās walk each other home.
