A Windows desktop application that I regularly use and I find really useful is my modified version of the iconic Gnu Diction. A rather old Unix standard command, written by Michael Haardt, helps to identify wordy and commonly misused phrases in a text file. I have recently ported, after substantial modifications, version 1.13 to Windows together with an intuitive and minimalistic user interface.
The 'Use Clipboard' button in the UI is particularly useful since I can check for inappropriate style in a group of paragraphs by copying them to the clipboard.
