Hi, I'm Kate, the person behind SEND Defender.
I didn't come to this work through a qualification first.

I came to it as a mum, struggling to understand a system that felt designed to wear parents down rather than help them. I have three children who are autistic and ADHD, two of whom went through school avoidance before finding their feet in alternative provision. I know what it's like to sit up at 2am trying to work out what an acronym means, or to leave a meeting feeling like you've been spoken over in your own child's life.

That experience is why I went on to become Level 3 SEN law qualified, so I could turn what I'd lived through into something useful for other families walking the same road.

A lot of what I share here, the quick answers, the honest posts, the bits of guidance I give people freely, comes from wanting families to have what I didn't when I started out.
