Moving forward after the accident

Moving forward after the accident

imageIf you don't know by now, I (Michelle) was bucked off Dreamer and life flighted to the hospital. There is a detailed post about it if you have not heard about it yet. We do not know why it happened. We will likely never know. That is fine, we are moving forward and leaving the past in the past. We are not inviting questions or comments on the topic of what happened or why.

The fact that Dreamer was still having trouble with the trailer says a lot. She is still holding fear and avoidance of direct pressure and lives in an anticipative state much of the time. The long term goal, for her emotional health and my safety, is to extinguish all that. Samantha Harvey of Alternative Horsemanship has guided me on a path to get this started.

When I got home from the hospital she flinched, tensed and leaned away when I went to pet her. We are beginning with something I can do in my broken condition. I just walk around the property and when she looks at me I briefly look back. Then, before she looks or walks away, I do. This does not create any pressure or expectations on her. As I get stronger, the process will progress. Today, for the first time, she took some steps towards me. I walked away. The idea is to leave her wanting. to offer more because I have asked for nothing.

Thank you so much for your support. Every dollar makes a difference.
