My friend Pat KF0ACU share several interests. Amateur radio, preparedness, a love of dogs and the great outdoors. Pat is the kind of guy who takes his adventures seriously and makes sure he has with him the proper tools in good condition and knows how to use them.
While volunteering radio support for a grueling dog sled marathon in the remote and frigid Arrowhead region in northern Minnesota, Pat found himself in a bad situation. In the dead of winter, Pat found himself alone in sub zero temperatures with a broken down vehicle and without heat.
Fortunately through Pat's experience and amateur radio, he was able to get help.
In this interview Pat and I discuss the John Beargrease Memorial dog sled race and how amateur radio plays a crucial role in keeping the dogs and mushers save. We also discuss how his last trip to the remote Arrowhead region became more of an adventure than he bargained for.
