Expecting more of a challenge
There is a hike along the St. Croix River I especially enjoy. It starts at a remote trailhead and follows the Wisconsin bank of the river to a rustic campsite. I have yet to see anyone else along the trail or at the campsite whenever I visit. But the DNR keep it well maintained.
I've only brought a HF radio with to this location a handful of times and without much success. I was expecting much of the same this trip, but things worked out better than expected.
Typically I have no cell coverage there, so I was anticipated having to grind things out the old fashioned way before being able to easily spot yourself in the field. However I had one bar of LTE coverage most of the time. So hunting other parks and spotting was a non-issue.
