Recently my friend Shacking Greg made a trip to my area from Indiana. We all camped one night at Wisconsin's Interstate Park, near St. Croix Falls. With it being in mid November, we pretty much had the campgrounds to ourselves.
POTA 2'fer
Greg and I set up at the park shelter that is adjacent to the Ice Age Trail, making the location a POTA 2'fer. Last time Greg was up, we operated from this same location. This time we used Greg's Icom IC-706 and his new N9SAB linked dipole for 20 and 40 meters. Greg was also trying out RG-316 coax for the first time.
Overall the activation was a good one. Pretty constant flow of contacts from start to finish. We could have gone longer than the 56 QSO's, but everybody was getting a little cold and we were really struggling to hear the hunters.
This was strange, because the meter on the radio was showing S9 plus for a lot of the signals, yet it was hard for us to make out what they were saying. After the activation, we discovered the shift knob on Greg's IC-706 was turned all the way to the left.
Campsite Beer Review
After the POTA, we went back to the campground and got a fire going. As we were starting to lose light, Greg and I thought we'd shoot a quick beer review video. He brought up a craft beer from Indiana, and I brought with some from Wisconsin. Both beers neither of us had before, so we thought we'd record our first reactions. Just for good measure, Greg brought along some marshmallow flavored whiskey.
