Round Two of 15 Meter Fun
This was the second POTA park for the day from Saturday, January 14th 2023. Earlier I activated a new to me park using mostly 15 meters. A band I never called CQ on before. It was a nice change of pace, and something I need to do more.
Since my first resonate antennas were for 20 meters only, I been in the habit of only activating on them, even now that I primarily use an antenna resonate on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters. Maybe right away on an activation in the morning I may start off on 40 meters. I tend to forget all about 10 and 15 meters.
Now that the solar cycle is picking up, and bands like 10 and 15 meters are opening up, I need to use them more often.
William O'Brien State Park
On this activation, I visited William O'Brien State Park. Within an hour's drive of my home, just on the Minnesota side of the St. Croix River. I'm pretty lucky to have several Wisconsin and Minnesota state parks like this a short drive from my home. This is the first time I been to this park and it certainly won't be the last.
Not all of the park roads were plowed out, but they did have one of the camping areas cleared. There were two camping trailers in the campground along with a couple who were building a snow shelter. I little cold and snow won't keep some campers at home.
I don't know if I'll be back this winter, but next spring and summer I will have to make a few trips over to explore the hiking trails and maybe setup camp for a night or two.
