It was a solid plan
Take the day off work and arrive at the location early in the morning to avoid crowds, and climb the decommissioned 100 foot tall fire tower located in a Minnesota State Park. From this unique vantage point overlooking the St. Croix River, I envisioned working a huge pileup with an amazing view for a back drop.
Then I broke my EFHW and my plan literally fell to the ground.

As a good portable amateur radio operator should, I embrace the 2 is 1 philosophy with critical items in my kit such as my antennas. So out came HQD speaker wire dipole.
Without being able to setup a dipole in the small cab of the tower, my station had to be setup on the picnic located near the base of the tower. My initial disappointment with being grounded for this activation quickly faded as the contacts started to come in.
However a redo is going to have to be done.
A mere 8.4 miles away from me as the crow flies, the fire tower that is now mocking me is just over an hour drive away.
