This is the second N9SAB antenna I have purchased, and it may not be the last. Tim N9SAB has earned a reputation of building very durable and effective antennas. How quickly his inventory moves on his eBay store is a testament to that.
This was the antenna I want to buy from Tim N9SAB first, but I could never catch it in stock at the right time to purchase it. So eventually I “settled” for his QRP Off Center Fed Dipole as my first purchase from him. Stress the quotations about for settled. This antenna is fantastic and I really enjoy using it occasionally in the field. It’s main purpose in my antenna arsenal is to be a quick deployed backup for my main home HF antenna. But let’s get back on subject here….
This linked 20/40 Dipole is a great choice for SOTA and POTA operators that want a compact lightweight antenna for the “bread and butter bands” of 20 meters and 40 meters. It is fast to setup, doesn’t take up much space in your kit and it works great.
Possibly the feature that sets Tim N9SAB’s antennas apart for the rest is there extremely rugged construction. While I have only had my N9SAB antennas for a few months now, I am convinced they will last for years upon years of hard use.
There is a lot of attention to detail in the construction. They are built to withstand the elements better than any antenna I’ve seen of this size and weight. I would be confident to use them in a permanent placement year round. Which I cannot say for the other portable wire antennas that I currently own, use and would still highly recommend to others. Nothing at all wrong with the lighter built antennas, they are just in a slightly different league.
In the above video, I use this antenna for the first time with great results. Over 120 contacts during a POTA activation. QSO’s up and down both coasts of the United States and points in-between. I even reached Europe with a contact to Italy and a Park to Park in the UK.
