A place for everything and everything in its place
I am a huge proponent of making and maintaining kits that are as modular as possible. Packs for camping and hiking, EDC, portable radio, whatever. I like to have things organized and ready to go.
I also like to have thing versatile and adaptable as possible. For me, it makes more sense to have a smaller pack that I can added and remove smaller elements of the pack for the given situation; instead of always carrying everything and using only some of the contents.
The above videos shows how I use a military style pack for some of my portable radio adventures. You will note that some items always remain in the pack; antenna analyzer, antennas, coax, cables, reference material. That way the basics are always there. Then other items or stowed in pouches or bags, and can be added to the larger pack for a specific outing. Plus those pouches and bags are stored in a cabinet in my shack when not in the larger pack. Orginized and ready to go when wanted.
