Superior Hiking Trail - Temperance River to Carlton Peak
What a great day for a hike on a great trail!
The above videos were from my 2024 46Climbs hike. September is suicide awareness month and 46Climbs has their event during the first week of September. Since 2020 I've been participating in the event. Real easy for me to do, just go out for a nice hike and dedicate it for the event by making it a fundraiser.
This year I went to one of my favorite places to be, the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT). The SHT runs along Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior. Starting in Duluth is goes through the Sawtooth Mountains to the Canadian boarder ast Grand Marais, MN.
I started at a trailhead in Temperance River State Park and headed to Carlton Peak, which is a Summits on the Air (SOTA) summit, K0M/NE-026. Carlton Peak is also within the boundaries of the state park and the Lake Superior National Forest, Parks on the Air (POTA) entities US-2525 and US-4491. So my Yaesu 818 and kit went along for the hike as well.
While a fairly tame hike for many, there is a few stretches of this segment that reminds me that I'm not in the physical condition that I should be! But the butt kicking was a good reminder that I need to improve and the views were worth it.
