The urban legend of 'The Man with the Scarred Neck' has been passed down for generations in the North East, telling of a demonic man who seduces then murders young women. The claims of horrifyingly brutal things 'The Man with the Scarred Neck' does to his victims is enough to scare 20 year old Elaine Smith so much, she runs home after hearing the tale.
Able to find comfort in the knowledge that 'The Man with the Scarred Neck' isn't real, she quickly moves past her fear. A few days later, Elaine meets a mysterious but handsome and charming man; Killian Lynch.
Swept off her feet and in love, Elaine believes her new boyfriend, Killian, is her soulmate...even when red flags begin showing.... All legends have their roots in truth, and 'The Man with the Scarred Neck' turns out to be far more malicious, calculated, cruel and pure evil than anyone could imagine...until one comes face to face with the demon, himself.
Deemed "the endurance test," and not for the faint of heart, 'The Man with the Scarred Neck' takes a unique but deep and meaningful approach to horror.
•READER REVIEWS•
• “It's in your face, it's obscene, it's gritty, it's confrontational and most importantly; it's poignant. The Man with the Scarred Neck is considered an endurance test, yes, but it is sincere in the story it tells."
• "This story and the note at the end hit so hard when you've had to deal with a person like Killian and/or Jim. It's incredibly well written and definitely worth more than the price."
• "I finished the story, WOW. Holy f*"k. That was definitely a roller coaster, made me feel more than anything I've read in a while. The trauma bond [portrayed in it] is captured so well. It seemed like Sanity was telling my story with the details changed. Thank you. Additionally, Sainty is an amazing writer and this was the best thing I've read in a while."
• "It's a great book, a [very well done] story, and Killian is a very well written character. But can I sayI enjoyed reading it? Nah, definitely not. I needed a lot of breaks and I rarely have to do that [with horror media]. I don't consider that a bad thing, the point was to make the reader uncomfortable and disturbed. I really love The Man with the Scarred Neck [as a horror book], but I hope to god people don't enjoy reading it because that would be truly concerning."
• "Sanity got the point of the story across perfectly. [What makes The Man with the Scarred Neck] so scary is that people similar to Killian are out there, in the real world. It's fucking terrifying, because it is true. This is not something you see in modern horror. It's not a Freddy Kruger or a Jason Voorhees, because people like that don't exist. People like Killian do exist and that is what makes [The Man with the Scarred Neck] so terrifying."
• "I finally got to read The Man with the Scarred Neck last night and oh my God. I literally haven't read something like this before because you'll never find this in a regular bookstore! And I mean that in the best way possible! I loved the no sugarcoating stuff and I'm glad that someone finally had the balls to write these things in a way that doesn't justify or "lessen the blow" if you will, but instead a making-you-uneasy-as-hell type of way because that's exactly how this is purposed to make you feel. All in all I absolutely loved it and I can't wait for more!"
• "Horrific. Brutal. Gory. Gut wrenching. Nonstop. Vile. Disturbingly realistic. Horror in its truest form. 'The Man with the Scarred Neck is a breath of fresh air in the splatterpunk genre, without scarfing the signature fucked up factors the lovers of the genre crave. 5/5 stars.”
• "On the scale of splatterpunk 1 to WTF this was a 3. It had a plot. It was engaging. I had to know what happened next. So I read it all. I do appreciate the preface note and the warning at the beginning of the book. The author's letter to the reader was also an awesome touch. I also was grateful to see the help and resources for the victims page. The author did a great job on helping their readers understand the idea behind the story. This novel would be something I would recommend that my partner read that wouldn't scar him for life. He has a very high standard for splatterpunk/horror novels and I feel this would pass his test. I give The Man with the Scarred Neck a 4 stars out of 5."
• "All my thoughts [about The Man with the Scarred Neck] are positive. It is absolutely terrifying, but in a good way. [The Man with the Scarred Neck] is something that was screaming in my face [the whole time] I was reading it. The scenario was all too real. The note at the end was extremely compelling. It is definitely not for the faint of heart, or people who can't come to terms with the reality of this world we live in."
• "It's no wonder Sanity's Horror made a name for themselves with this book. By all means [The Man with the Scarred Neck] is extreme horror. Bought it on a whim and finished it with a new fav book and author. Looking forward to the books sanity has announced are releasing in the upcoming years. I give man with the scarred neck…..9.5/10 stars!"
• "After hearing my friends rave about this book all summer and seeing the excellent reviews, I knew I just had to get it. This price is a steal, easily worth it. Anyone who has heard of this book, or anyone who hasn't heard of this book: I strongly encourage you to buy [The Man with the Scarred Neck]. Purchased it all of a week ago but I've already read it 10 times! 5/5 stars!”
• "The Man with the Scarred neck may very well may be best horror book I've ever found! The prose is gritty but that's what made it so authentic, and [Sanity's Horror] has a very unique voice as an author in the best way. The fast pacing kept my heart pounding from beginning to end. What's so disturbing is how real the story is, but it's a story that needs to be told because it's so many people's stories. [Sanity] blew my expectations out of the water. I find [Sanity's] prose and story telling to be leagues beyond [their] years.. What matters is the story that the book tells: all too real story of a victim. Easy 10/10 stars"
