I recently platinum trophied Final Fantasy VII Remake on the ole PS4—that pesky PS5 continues to elude me—and it got me going down the rabbit hole of all-things FF7.
When you step back and think about it, FF7 has one of the richest stories ever created in a video game franchise.
We have tragic villains and heartwarming friendships. We have good versus evil, a race to save the planet, intricate magic systems, unexpected tragedies. Corrupt corporations. We have troubled protagonists and self-sacrificing heroes. Vast landscapes of beauty and certain peril. Sophisticated tech.
From Cloud Strife and Zack Fair to the iconic Aerith and her pink hair ribbon. Vincent Valentine. Angeal and Genesis. Nanaki. Shiva's role in sealing Jenova. Our love-hate relationship with the infamous one-winged angel, Sephiroth. Final Fantasy VII and its spin-offs (Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus) literally have everything.
I just finished reading FFVII: On the Way to a Smile and I plan to read The Kids are Alright: A Turk's Side Story. There's just so much to love about this story, and I find myself wanting to discuss this world here soon. I think a YouTube video is in short order!
