TSMC Is Set to Post a Sixth Straight Record Profit on October 15, and the Real Test Is Its Margins

TSMC reports its third-quarter results on October 15, and analysts expect another record. The revenue half of the story is already confirmed. What happens to profitability is the open question.

imageHere is what we know so far, and what is still an estimate:

→ Confirmed: Q3 revenue came in at about NT$1.49 trillion (roughly $46.7 billion), up around 51% year over year, and above TSMC’s own guidance ceiling of $45.8 billion
→ Expected: net profit of about NT$746 billion (around $23.4 billion), up roughly 65%, per an LSEG consensus of 16 analysts. FactSet is a bit more conservative at roughly NT$732 billion
→ The bar: anything above Q2’s NT$706.56 billion sets a new quarterly record, which would be the sixth in a row and the 11th straight quarter of profit growth
→ Context: Q2 net income jumped 77.4%, and TSMC raised its 2026 growth outlook to slightly above 40%
→ The watch item: one analyst preview estimates net margin falling to around 50%, down from about 55.6% last quarter, as the 2nm ramp and overseas expansion add costs

The revenue number tells you AI demand is still there. The margin number tells you what it costs to meet that demand. Making the world’s most advanced chips means heavy spending on new nodes, advanced packaging like CoWoS, and factories in the US and beyond. Profit can set records in absolute terms while the percentage kept from each dollar of sales shrinks.

That makes this earnings call less about whether TSMC is growing and more about guidance. Its capex plans and margin outlook for the next few quarters will shape spending across the chip industry, because Nvidia, Apple and nearly every AI accelerator maker depend on what TSMC can build.

One caution: every profit figure above is a forecast until the company reports on the 15th.

When a company becomes this central to AI hardware, do you watch its growth numbers, or its margins?
