Proactive AI Startup Sol Raises $4 Million from General Catalyst, Nexus Venture Partners, and Fintech Veteran Kunal Shah

Sol has emerged from stealth with $4 million in a funding round led by General Catalyst and Nexus Venture Partners, with participation from DeVC, Peercheque, and CRED founder Kunal Shah. The startup will use the fresh capital for research and development as well as go-to-market initiatives.

Here's the actual problem Sol is solving. Most AI assistants today wait to be told what to do, you have to open a chat window and type a prompt before anything happens. Sol flips that model entirely, it scans Gmail for commitments you've already made in writing, things like "I'll send that over tomorrow" or "let me put together a proposal", and starts doing the actual work needed to fulfil them, coming back to you only for final approval or edits.

The founder story brings real credibility here. Sol was founded in August 2025 by Anish Karan, Prateek Srivastava, and Ranjith Nair, all three previously associated with CRED, which explains why Kunal Shah himself chose to back this round personally rather than just watching from the sidelines.

The product itself goes well beyond drafting email replies. Sol's proactive AI handles research, document creation, presentation building, scheduling, and meeting coordination, essentially acting as a quiet background assistant that moves work forward the moment a commitment is detected, rather than sitting idle until prompted. On privacy, the company has been explicit that customer data is not used to train AI models, and that its underlying AI providers are configured to disable training on customer inputs entirely.

The investor enthusiasm is worth noting too. Jishnu Bhattacharjee of Nexus Venture Partners said what excited him most was that Sol's AI simply knows when to act, calling it AI that "just works" without a learning curve, while General Catalyst's Akarsh Shrivastava framed the core thesis plainly, if you've already said you'll do something, AI should already be doing it.

From reactive chatbots to proactive digital colleagues, Sol's stealth exit is a bet that the next wave of workplace AI won't wait to be asked.
