Laundry and Home Cleaning Brand Ecosys Raises Rs 5 Crore in Pre-Series A to Bring Laundry Pods to Indian Households

Mumbai-based sustainable cleaning startup Ecosys has raised Rs 5 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by GVFL Prarambh Fund, with participation from Proteus Partners, backed by operator-investors Puru Gupta and Sreejith Moolayil, the co-founders of True Elements. This latest round takes Ecosys's total funding raised to date to Rs 7.94 crore.

Here's the problem Ecosys is actually solving. In most of the world, laundry pods have already replaced scooping loose powder, roughly two in three US households and about four in ten UK households already use them, but in India, that figure sits under 10%. Ecosys is betting that timing gap is exactly the opportunity, building single-dose, mess-free laundry pods using water-soluble PVA film that dissolve completely in water, cutting down on single-use plastic waste while eliminating the need for measuring or scooping altogether.

The founder story adds real depth here. Ecosys was co-founded in 2017 by chartered accountants Sumit Goyal and Chirag Dangi, childhood friends who reunited in 2023 to build the business together. Dangi brings a background in equity research and private equity, having spent several years at Brookfield working on investments totalling more than Rs 3,000 crore, before leaving in 2023 to build Ecosys full-time.

The fresh capital has a clear, focused roadmap. Rather than diversifying into unrelated consumer categories, Ecosys plans to expand its presence across e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms, invest specifically in consumer education around laundry pods as a format, strengthen its brand, and develop new formats within laundry and home cleaning, including glass cleaners, floor cleaners, bathroom cleaners and kitchen sprays.

The bigger opportunity is what makes this space worth watching. India's household cleaners market was worth $11.91 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $39.84 billion by 2034, growing at nearly 14% annually, more than double the global pace. Ecosys now competes in a heating-up category alongside players like Koparo, which raised Rs 14.5 crore in an extended pre-seed round, Cleevo, which secured $1 million in seed funding, and Beco, which raised $10 million from Tanglin Venture Partners.

From a two-founder idea to a real bet on changing India's laundry habits, Ecosys's pre-Series A round is a small but telling signal that sustainable, convenience-led cleaning is finally finding its moment in India.
