Jar Raises Rs 29 Crore From Existing Investor Unitary Fund at a 23% Valuation Premium

Bengaluru-based digital gold savings platform Jar has raised Rs 29 crore in fresh funding from existing investor Unitary Fund, according to regulatory filings, coming through a Series B2 round at a valuation about 23% higher than its previous round.

Here's the backstory that makes this raise notable. Jar had reportedly been struggling to close a fresh round despite discussions with several investors, including WestBridge Capital, over recent months. This Rs 29 crore lifeline from an existing backer arrives even as the company remains in separate talks to raise a much larger $100 million round involving WestBridge and other investors, suggesting this smaller round was more about bridging near-term needs than signalling a major new growth phase.

The mechanics of the deal are straightforward. Jar's board approved the allotment of 1,70,589 Series B2 compulsorily convertible preference shares at an issue price of Rs 1,700 per share, with Unitary Fund subscribing to the entire issue, making it the sole investor in this round. According to Entrackr's estimates, this allotment puts Jar's post-money valuation at around Rs 3,155 crore, up from approximately Rs 2,565 crore in its previous round. The company plans to use the proceeds to meet working capital requirements and for general corporate purposes.

The bigger picture matters here. Jar operates in the digital gold savings space, helping users build small, regular savings habits through micro-investments in gold, a category that's grown steadily in India as more retail investors look for accessible ways to save without navigating stock markets directly. A valuation bump even on a modest round signals that at least one existing investor remains confident in the business, even as bigger-ticket fundraising conversations continue to play out.

From bridge capital to a validated valuation step-up, Jar's Rs 29 crore round is a reminder that in India's funding environment, even smaller raises can carry real signal value.
