Indian Startup Funding Nears $1 Billion in August, Jumping 44% After July's Slowdown

Indian startup funding jumped 44.3% month-on-month to $955 million in August 2026, up from July's $662 million, making it the third-highest monthly total of the year, according to data compiled by Entrackr. On a year-on-year basis, funding remained largely stable, $955 million in August 2026 compared to $961 million in August 2025, even as the total number of deals declined from 100 to 88.

Here's what powered the growth-stage recovery. EV startup River Mobility led the pack with a $120 million Series C round, followed by Navi at $100 million and Yulu at $93 million, while AI startup Sarvam AI secured $74 million. Other notable growth-stage deals came from Third Wave Coffee, Leap India, Matter, BlissClub, Matel and BGauss, spreading capital across mobility, fintech, AI, F&B, supply chain, EV and manufacturing.

Early-stage activity told its own story. Aviation startup Airbound led early-stage funding with $37 million, followed by wealthtech platform Centricity at $30 million and fintech startup InRisk Labs at $27 million, showing that smaller, newer bets were still finding real conviction from investors even in a month dominated by a handful of large checks.

Geography and sector data reveal where the money actually went. Bengaluru continued to dominate, pulling in 47 deals worth $657.65 million, nearly 69% of the month's total funding, while Delhi-NCR followed with $127.92 million across 20 deals and Mumbai secured $83.35 million across eight deals. Hyderabad and Pune trailed with smaller shares. By sector, EV led the pack with $256.14 million across six deals (26.9% of total funding), fintech followed with $200.9 million across eight deals, AI secured $134.4 million across 13 deals, e-commerce raised $48.23 million across 12 deals, and deeptech added $40.3 million.

Stage-wise, Series A deals led the month's activity, accounting for $313.44 million across 27 deals, reinforcing that India's funding recovery in August wasn't just about a few mega-rounds, it reflected genuine breadth across sectors, cities and funding stages.

One month doesn't make a trend, but August's rebound is a solid signal that India's startup funding engine still has real momentum left in 2026.
